Workshops

We run workshops for all ages and abilities, from professional artists to young people who are disengaged from formal education.

Our self-programmed work includes a series of professional development meetings called Creative Playgroup, where peers are encouraged to share their creative and practical skills in a relaxed and engaged environment. The idea is that we enable a stronger and more flexible artistic community, and encourage the production of artworks that transcend definitions of form. Workshops in this series have included Contact Improvisation, Drama, Illustration and Poetry Stylistics, as well as opportunities to give and receive critical feedback.

Because of this experience, and from years working with arts institutions across the UK, Mercy are also well placed to inspire a new generation of artists, writers, printmakers, designers and musicians. The DIY ethos ingrained in our beginnings as a black and white photocopies fanzine, and the range of expertise we have gathered in the process of developing into a successful creative company, feed well into workshop structures that have vision to help participants engage in cultural activities. At present we have active workshop delivery partnerships with FACT, Find Your Talent, and Young Tate.

As a diverse creative collective, we can devise and develop tailored workshops for your needs. Some examples of successful workshops are Poetry Masterclass, two days of producing poetry-based films with our writers and film-makers, and Zine mentoring, where Mercy develop a series of workshops and mentoring opportunities for young people to start their own sustainable zine.
