Pianist Sarah Nicolls will be presenting new work with Nathan Jones.

This is a video taken by our favourite man-with-a-cam Mr Sam Meech, at an early showcase of Sarah's new piano-machine. She is playing her own composition, using the keys, small motors within the piano, processing the sound live using a sensor in a top hat, and  getting right in there and plucking the strings by hand.

We are totally buzzing to have Sarah on board for another WIYRT event – not only has already done the business for us at Wave If You're Really There #04 and at our Revolutions in Form at the Bluecoat (in collaboration with Nathan), she is properly sound, is constantly innovating and pushing her artform forward and her CV is astonishing:

Sarah has performed concerti with the London Sinfonietta, the Philharmonia Orchestra and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, appeared in solo recital over a dozen times on Radio 3, winner of the British Contemporary Piano Competition 2000, shortlisted twice for the Royal Philharmonic Society Young Artist Award and received consistent critical acclaim since her South Bank debut in 2001.

Sarah also plays with Mira Calix (Warp Records) and David Sheppard (Sound Intermedia) in Alexander's Annexe – a trio exploring the expansion of the grand piano with electronics and pre-recorded sound. Their album Push Door To Exit is available on Warp Records.

Kapow.
